The imminent transfer of Brian Brobbey to RB Leipzig is causing bad blood among the Ajax supporters. Fabian Nagtzaam, chairman of the Ajax Supporters Association, even uses the word ‘betrayal’. According to him, trainer Erik ten Hag should not use Brobbey at all for the rest of this season. Nagtzaam’s opinion is widely heard by the fans of the Amsterdam club.

“At the hard core Brobbey has grown up. They don’t want him to play for Ajax anymore”, Nagtzaam said in clear terms on Wednesday. Faithful. “We are used to players leaving, but Brobbey is a child of the club, grew up at Ajax. That is extra sensitive. Many supporters see that as betrayal.” The supporters are very sorry that Brobbey, despite all the efforts surrounding a new contract, has opted to leave Amsterdam. “The club has gone very far to keep him, and yet in all his wisdom he has decided to turn his back on Ajax.”

The arrival of Sébastien Haller in January clouded Brobbey’s perspective at Ajax, but Nagtzaam is nevertheless fully behind the interim arrival of the striker taken over from West Ham United. “Before the winter break it did not go so smoothly and the championship had to be brought in. Haller was a godsend”, the spokesman for the Ajax supporters clarifies. Despite his anger, Nagtzaam is also disappointed that Brobbey is in his last months as a player for Ajax. He has been following the only nineteen-year-old attacker since his first steps in the youth academy of the club.

“He has everything to become a top striker. Technically he still had some rough edges, but in the sixteen he is deadly”, Nagtzaam gives a compliment to Brobbey. “Ajax had a good long-term plan with him, as with Ryan Gravenberch. Brobbey should have followed that route better first.” Whether Brobbey can quickly conquer a starting place at Leipzig remains to be seen, according to the Ajax supporter. “He can fill in well, we now know, but can he also do it at top level in the Bundesliga for ninety minutes?”
