Donny van de Beek returned to the Manchester United training field on Thursday, the club announced via the official channels. At Carrington, the midfielder was caught on camera as he completed individual training with several coaches. The goal of the 26-year-old Dutchman is to fully recover from his serious knee injury at the start of next season.

Van de Beek collided with former Feyenoord player Marcos Senesi on January 3 in the won Premier League match against Bournemouth (3-0). The midfielder left the field shaken and had to be operated on immediately. It soon became clear that he would not play again in the current season due to his serious knee injury, but Van de Beek is now making ‘big steps’ in his recovery process.

“I feel much better and am now on the right track,” says Van de Beek about his recovery. “I also need to eat a lot of protein to recover; I need to eat well for my knee. Football is a big part of your life and you enjoy it every day with your teammates. And if you have to miss that, it’s tough. I’m trying to look at it all positively now and I’m getting closer to my comeback every day. I can already do almost everything. We are now on the right track and I am no longer in pain, so that is positive,” he concludes in conversation with the club channel.

Van de Beek still has a contract with United until mid-2025 with the option for an extra year. Since his arrival from Ajax in the summer of 2020 (for a sloppy forty million euros), he has had varying degrees of success. The counter currently stands at sixty games in the shirt of the Red Devils, in which he was accurate twice and acted as declarant twice. In January 2022, he was loaned to Everton for six months. It is as yet unclear what the plans of manager Erik ten Hag are for the coming season with Van de Beek.
