Danilho Doekhi claimed an absolute leading role in the duel with TSG Hoffenheim on Saturday afternoon. 1. FC Union Berlin was 0-1 up to fifteen minutes before the end, but two striking headers from Doekhi gave the team from Berlin the full spoils: 3-1. Union Berlin is the opponent of Ajax in the knockout phase of the Europa League at the end of February. Micky van de Ven also won very convincingly against Mark Flek’s SC Freiburg with VfL Wolfsburg: 6-0. Eintracht Frankfurt is the new number two in the Bundesliga after the victory over Schalke O4.

1. FC Union Berlin – TSG Hoffenheim 3-1
Hoffenheim took the lead a few minutes before the break. Tom Bischof set up a counter, after which the ball ended up at Ihlas Bebou via Dennis Geiger and Robert Skov. The striker, who was absent for months due to an injury, then remained cool and crowned his return with a goal: 0-1. The home team came alongside more than fifteen minutes before the end through a striking header from Doekhi.

The central defender won the air duel against his direct opponent and nodded in a corner from Christopher Trimmel in the far corner: 1-1. In the absolute final phase, Doekhi made his second of the evening and gave his team the three points. Hoffenheim goalkeeper Oliver Baumann wanted to knock away a corner from Trimmel, but Doekhi reached the ball earlier and was able to hit the ball: 2-1. Jamie Leweling put the final score on the board in the absolute final phase: 3-1.

VfL Wolfsburg – SC Freiburg 6-0
Freiburg failed to catch up with leader Bayern Munich, which drew 1-1 at RB Leipzig on Friday evening. Keeper Mark Flek’s team was already behind after a minute. Patrick Wimmer was sent deep by Yannick Gerhardt and finished: 1-0. After half an hour, Wolfsburg doubled the score, with Van de Ven in the defense. Wimmer deflected Maximilian Arnold’s cross with a controlled tap and Jonas Wind headed in the 2-0.

The same Wind made it 3-0 before the break, after a low cross from Van de Ven. In the second half, the home team continued cheerfully. Gerhardt made it 4-0 after a mistake in the back at Freiburg, Ridle Baku scored the fifth goal by scoring on a pass from Kevin Paredes and Luca Waldschmidt completed the washing in stoppage time from a penalty kick.

Eintracht Frankfurt – Schalke 04 3-0
Eintracht Frankfurt knew that with a win over Schalke and a defeat of SC Freiburg, it would climb to second place in the Bundesliga. Thomas Ouwejan was missing at Schalke 04. The long-term injured Sepp van den Berg also did not travel to Frankfurt. The home team had the better of the game in the early stages and took the lead halfway through the first half through Jesper Lindstrøm, who hit hard into the roof of the goal.

Schalke came out dribs and drabs, but had too little offensive power to become really dangerous. Michael Frey, hired from Royal Antwerp, must change that during the remainder of the season. The game was closed five minutes before the end by Rafael Borre. The striker hit the left corner. Aurelio Buta then provided the final chord in the final minute. Frankfurt now has thirty points after sixteen games, a club record.
