Dimitri De Condé, technical director at the Belgian KRC Genk, has been suspended for two matches following an altercation with former Ajax player Jan Vertonghen. The incident took place on September 3 last, when Genk drew 1-1 at home against Vertonghen’s Anderlecht. After that match there was a confrontation between the two.

The match between the Belgian clubs resulted in a battle in which the referee issued a total of eleven cards, including three in the first fifteen minutes. At halftime of the match, De Condé waited for the referee on duty and scolded him. After the match, the director became involved in a row with Vertonghen. The former is said to have called the defender a ‘size-cutter’, among other things.

The technical director has now been suspended for that. In practice, the punishment means that De Condé is not allowed to enter the zone around the field for the next two matches, although the Belgian is allowed to be present in the stadium. In addition, De Condé will receive a fine of three thousand euros. Genk and the director have agreed to the punishment.

Genk has had a mixed season in the Belgian Pro League so far. Last season’s number two has already lost points four times in seven games this football year and is in sixth place with twelve points. Anderlecht, on the other hand, is having an excellent season. Where Purple-White had to settle for a disappointing eleventh place last spring, the team is still competing for the top positions this season.
