Kylian Mbappé responded again on Thursday evening to the soap that has arisen around his person. The 24-year-old striker of Paris Saint-Germain has informed the club’s board in a letter that he will not renew his contract, which expires in mid-2024. “I didn’t know a letter could kill someone. It’s just a letter,” said Mbappé soberly at the press conference ahead of Friday night’s European Championship qualifying match with Gibraltar.

PSG absolutely does not want to let his star player leave next year on a free transfer and therefore has a clear plan. Either Mbappé signs up or he leaves this summer. The Frenchman himself indicates that he does not intend to make a transfer this summer, to the frustration of the Parisians. Even Emmanuel Macron, the president of France, wants to convince Mbappé of a longer stay at PSG. “He has no influence on my future,” says the 68-time international at the press conference. “Macron hopes I stay with PSG and I want to stay with PSG. So we are on the same page.”

Mbappé does not understand the fuss that has arisen after it became known that he has informed the PSG club management by letter that he will not renew his contract. “I didn’t expect the letter to offend anyone. I just sent a letter. I didn’t know a letter could kill someone. It’s just a letter. I don’t care about the reactions,” said the Frenchman, who is asked to explain why he wants to stay at PSG this summer without renewing his contract. “There is nothing to explain. People may talk and criticize, but I know why I do what I do and why I say what I say. People don’t have all the information.”

“I have my own reasons,” Mbappé explains his decision not to extend. “My only option is to stay with PSG, I have said that before.” According to L’Equipe the club management does not understand Mbappé’s attitude. PSG believe it has done everything it can to please the superstar in Paris. Mbappé would have drafted the letter independently, but his management was aware of the action. The decision of the lightning fast attacker causes a crisis in the French capital.

Mbappé has been playing for PSG since the summer of 2018, which took him over from AS Monaco for 180 million euros at the time. The expectation is that les Parisians want to receive more than 200 million euros in the event of the departure of the super striker. In recent years, Mbappé played no less than 260 official games for PSG, in which he scored 212 goals and 98 assists. This makes him the all-time top scorer of the European superpower. In addition to Lionel Messi, PSG may lose a second world star this summer.
