FC Utrecht has confirmed the temporary arrival of Can Bozdogan through the official channels. By attracting the 21-year-old midfielder, Utrecht seems to be aiming for a departure from Quinten Timber, who has long been associated with a departure from De Galgenwaard. Bozdogan is leased from Schalke 04 including an option to buy.

“We are very happy that Can has chosen FC Utrecht”, technical director Jordy Zuidam responds to the club website, before giving a description of his new acquisition. “Can is a talented left-footed central midfielder with a good kick. He is a dynamic player, who is very technical and also puts a lot of energy into his game. Despite his young age, he has already gained experience in top foreign competitions and is already active has been in the Champions League. We are pleased to welcome Can to the club, partly because of his belief in our ambitions.”

Bozdogan made the switch to Schalke in August 2019, which transferred 700,000 euros to 1. FC Köln. At his new club, the young midfielder mainly played in Schalke Under 19. In the 2020/21 season, he was brought into the first team, for which he has played eighteen games so far. Last season, the German youth international played on a rental basis for the Turkish Besiktas. For that club, the left leg played 27 games, scored once and provided one assist.

Saturday messaged The Telegraph Another thing is that Utrecht is seriously interested in Carel Eiting, who is transfer-free after his departure from Huddersfield Town. That interest cannot be seen separately from the developments surrounding Timber. The 21-year-old midfielder is on the list of various clubs at home and abroad. Feyenoord showed itself the most concrete so far, but The Telegraph know that Ajax and PSV are also keeping an eye on Timber to succeed Edson Álvarez and Ibrahim Sangaré respectively, should they leave their clubs.

Utrecht has been very active on the transfer market for the time being. Bas Dost (Club Brugge), Nick Viergever (Greuther Fürth) and Taylor Booth (Bayern Munich II), among others, came over on a free transfer. Vasilis Barkas (Celtic), Daishawn Redan (Hertha BSC) and Modibo Sagnan (Real Sociedad) were hired. Only for Luuk Brouwers (Go Ahead Eagles) a transfer fee was paid. Furthermore, strong holders Adam Maher and Simon Gustafson left the club, a step that basic player Timber can also make.
