The racist noises during the match between FC Dordrecht and MVV Maastricht on Friday evening did not leave Seydine N’Diaye in the cold. According to the Limburger The 23-year-old defender, who in the words of team-mate Anouar El Azzouzi was ‘devastated’ after the game, flew to native France to spend time with family. After already suspending two supporters on Saturday, MVV also requested images from the KNVB together with the KNVB ESPN and Dordrecht to track down more perpetrators.

MVV wants to use the images to get evidence of racism about ‘a totally new young group of MVV followers’. The Limburg club and the KNVB will not elaborate on this due to discretionary considerations. MVV wrote on Friday night that it had already started an extensive investigation, after which two ‘young men who had traveled with us’ came into view on Saturday morning as bringers of the racist noises against N’Diaye. “From MVV, these two boys will in any case receive a stadium ban”, the club from the Kitchen Champion Division reported.

N’Diaye reported in the extra time of the duel with MVV – which was won 3-1 by Dordrecht – at the arbitration that he was being treated racist from the branch. He pointed to some fans who were standing behind the boarding. Referee Richard Martens initially took it as a comment to the assistant referees and gave N’Diaye a yellow card. Criticism immediately came to the card, after which the KNVB decided to dismiss it.

“At that time, the referee was not aware that the player did not act against a decision of the arbitration, but rather drew attention to painful statements from the stands for him,” the KNVB further explained on Saturday. “After it became clear to the referee what exactly had happened, he asked the prosecutor not to register the yellow card.”

The match was stopped shortly after N’Diaye’s moment, after which the FC Dordrecht defender left the field emotionally. Fifteen minutes after the players had gone to the changing rooms, the game resumed with a throw-in without N’Diaye. Immediately afterwards, the players and arbitration made a statement against racism by kneeling on the field, after which referee Martens whistled before the end of the game. Marianne van Leeuwen, director of professional football KNVB, already called the incident ‘disgusting, hurtful and harmful’ on Saturday. “There is no place for this in football. We are proud of the reaction of the players,” said Van Leeuwen.
