SC Cambuur shared the points with Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday afternoon in the Eredivisie. The Frisians were helped in the first half by a huge blunder by Tim Coremans, who fumbled at a cross and then saw the ball end up in his own goal via his knee. Debutant Adrián Dalmau saved a point on behalf of Sparta in the final phase: 1-1. At Cambuur, trainer Henk de Jong, who had to rest temporarily due to a cyst in his head, was on the bench before his return.

Younes Namli and Dalmau immediately made their debut at Sparta with a basic place, while Patrick Joosten also made his first minutes for the Frisian club at Cambuur. De Jong had to do without Mees Hoedemakers, who was out of circulation for several weeks. In addition, Issa Kallon was missing because of his participation in the Africa Cup with Sierra Leone. The visitors opened strongly, because through Dalmau, trainer Henk Fraser’s team managed to create danger twice in the first minutes. First the Spanish striker was a toe-length short on a cross by Lennart Thy and then he shot straight at goalkeeper Sonny Stevens.

The home team controlled the majority of the first half, although this did not immediately lead to great opportunities. On the other hand, it was precisely Sparta that went on the hunt for the opening goal. For example, Stevens was twice forced to a last resort by Thy. Sparta took over the initiative during the first half, but had to see how Tim Coremans disadvantaged his team after more than half an hour with a huge blunder. The closing post seemed to be able to easily pluck a pass from Joosten out of the air, but then let the ball slip out of his hands, after which the toy rolled into his own goal through his knee: 1-0.

Sparta claimed the lead until Coremans’ own goal. The unnecessary backlog clearly cut in, because in the second half the team from Rotterdam was unable to fire on Stevens’ goal for a long time. Cambuur mainly lurked on the counter and through Nick Doodeman, with one hour on the clock, they had the perfect opportunity to double the margin. On a pass from Roberts Uldrikis, the attacker shot eye to eye with goalkeeper Coremans, however, just wide.

Doodeman’s miss cost the Frisian club dearly in the last fifteen minutes. Dalmau was almost invisible after the two opportunities in the opening phase, but did not hesitate when a cross that changed direction landed on him. The striker took on the chest and then passed Stevens with a low shot into the left corner: 1-1. For Dalmau it was his first goal since March 20, when he was accurate against Fortuna Sittard in the FC Utrecht shirt. Emanuel Emegha saved a point for the Spartans in the absolute final phase by taking a header from Uldrikis off the line.
