PSV played a somewhat difficult match against Go Ahead Eagles before half time on Wednesday evening, but after half time the Eindhoven team got the job done (3-0). The big men on the PSV side were Luuk de Jong (two goals) and Jordan Teze (two assists). The latter played because Sergiño Dest had to cancel sick and made an excellent impression on De Jong and ESPNanalyst Karim El Ahmadi.

“I really thought Teze played great today,” El Ahmadi said. “Not only because of his crosses and two assists, but I thought he was good on the ball and also strong defensively.” Presenter Toine van Peperstraten states that Teze presents himself as ‘a decent competitor for Dest’. The American international has been preferred to Teze in recent weeks. “Yes, that’s right,” El Ahmadi agrees. “Dest and Van Aanholt are more attacking players, but what we always criticized about Teze was the attacking aspect. If you have two assists as a right back, then you are doing well. He has to continue that line. He has to be in the trying to fight at the grassroots.”

Van Peperstraten does make a comment and wonders whether Teze could excel because the emphasis at Go Ahead was on Hirving Lozano, who was posted in front of Teze in the right wing position. “You saw that Go Ahead Eagles deliberately put Edvardsen on Lozano today,” El Ahmadi answers. “And Kuipers next to Edvardsen, so that if Lozano moves in, Kuipers can pick him up. That left Teze free. Maybe they thought that Teze doesn’t have a very good cross, but yes… It only worked out better that he was released.”

Teze had to make do with a reserve role in the matches against NEC and Almere City. He did kick off against Arsenal, although his direct competitor Dest in North London also kicked off as a left back. The Almeerder’s sick report offered opportunities for Teze on Wednesday. De Jong also said afterwards that he was very pleased with Teze. “I think I have already scored quite a few goals through Jordan. This is also just a wonderful cross from Teze,” says the attack leader upon seeing the 1-0. “The moment he gives it, I see that the ball falls over the central defender (Gerrit Nauber, ed.). Then I attack it and nod in well. Teze has a good kick. His cross is good and His shot is also just good. I always look for him when he gets the ball.”
