De Graafschap mourns the death of Roy Ebbers. The youth coach worked as an assistant coach for the Under-17 and has just turned 48. Ebbers was closely involved in the youth academy of De Graafschap from 2018 onwards. Players and technical staff of the teams in the youth academy are shocked and affected by the loss, the club from the Kitchen Champion Division reports.
The players who trained under Ebbers met on Tuesday afternoon at De Bezelhorst sports park. All youth training sessions scheduled for Tuesday have been cancelled. De Graafschap wishes all relatives of Ebbers, including his partner Maaike, his family and friends, a lot of strength.

Last season, Ebbers also worked as a trainer of the Under-17 of amateur club vv VIOD from Doetinchem, which also reports the sad news. Ebbers was due to join the Under-19 this season. “Unfortunately, he was no longer able to accomplish that for personal reasons,” the amateur club writes.
“Roy was closely involved with our club as a trainer from 2013 and had taken the Under-17 to a higher level in recent years. Roy was a highly motivated and driven but also a loyal trainer. He wanted to prepare the boys for the big work” , according to vv VIOD. “We are very upset and deeply sad at the club.”
