Darwin Núnez has difficulty understanding manager Jürgen Klopp, the 23-year-old Uruguayan indicates during an interview with ESPN Vivo. The striker even frankly admits that he does not understand a word when Klopp speaks. Nunez came over from Benfica last summer for no less than 75 million euros and has only scored twice in the Liverpool shirt so far.

Núnez is very candid about the obstacles during his rough start in England. The same goes for his relationship with Klopp. “Honestly, I don’t understand a word he’s saying when he’s talking. Of course I ask my teammates to find out what he said, but I think he is very clear about his playing style.” Núnez has a particular problem with Klopp’s accent when the German manager communicates in English.

Although Núnez has not yet really scored at Liverpool, his manager still has enough confidence in the young striker. Klopp sees that the Uruguayan is still dangerous in front of goal. “I think you see that more and more in him. The way he and the other boys moved in the front was also exceptionally good. Darwin is a striker who will come into promising situations much more often and then the tide will quickly turn for him.” Against Rangers (2-0 win), Núnez started in the starting line-up on Tuesday-evening, but was unable to find the net.

In August, Núnez allowed himself to be provoked by Joachim Andersen during the game against Crystal Palace. The Uruguayan was then shown a red card for a headbutt. Liverpool eventually drew 1-1 in the home game and Núnez went through the dust on social media. “I am aware of the ugly attitude I had,” the Uruguayan international wrote on Twitter. “I’m here to learn from my mistakes and it won’t happen again. Apologies to Liverpool. I’ll be back.”
