Daley Blind shows himself quite candid in the podcast on Wednesday Football Is Life by FC Rehab. The defender (33) of Bayern Munich would like to be active as a professional football player for a few more years, but wants to make a well-considered choice in that context. Blind has an expiring contract with Bayern and given his many reserves, it seems unlikely that the German adventure will be continued.

Bayern is normally not Blind’s final destination. “As long as my body holds up well and I hopefully remain injury-free, then I want to keep it up as long as possible. I hope to be able to play for another three or four years,” said Blind, who talks in the podcast with former teammates Siem de Jong and Jan Vertonghen. The next adventure is still uncertain for Blind. The former Ajax player is in doubt between a big club in a small league and a small club in a big league.

“That is exactly what I think about a lot. You have certain options and you also make certain considerations. In our career we have always played for the prizes, you know. Or participated. So then you make the choice: do you choose a bigger competition at a probably lesser club, where you will participate in the middle bracket. Or do you opt for a lower level, but at a top club that competes for the title or in the title fight. ” Blind, who has played five times on behalf of Bayern so far, has not yet made a final decision. Life outside football also plays a major role for him.

“Do I want to choose life at this stage or do I choose purely for football?” asks the veteran of the record master wonders aloud. “Or are you looking for a combination? Or do I choose something close to Amsterdam, so that I can go home now and then? Those are many factors that I still have doubts about. One week I get up with that choice, and the next week with the other choice. And you don’t know which choice will come.” The sporty aspect is leading in all cases, Blind emphasizes. “That’s my number one priority.”

Ajax
Blind does not specifically discuss a possible return to Ajax, the club he left after problems with Alfred Schreuder, who has since been fired. “I can see myself returning to Ajax one day, in any way,” said the left back in January Football Is Life. “I do feel connected to the club. I never imagined that the situation would turn out like this. I am an Ajax player and I will not just return to Ajax from Manchester United at the age of 28 – in the best time of my career.” Blind started his second period at Ajax in 2018, after four years in England.
