Frans Janssen presents KNVB Cup after NEC win

If NEC seizes the TOTO KNVB Cup on Sunday, Frans Janssen will present the cup. The people of Nijmegen announced this on Tuesday through official channels. The now 69-year-old former striker made more than 400 appearances for the club between 1977 and 1992.

If Feyenoord wins the cup, Regi Blinker will present the prize to the captain of the Rotterdam team. The cup final starts next Sunday at 6:00 PM in De Kuip.

Martin Ødegaard is fit enough for the Champions League cracker against Bayern Munich

Last Sunday, Arsenal fans were shocked when Ødegaard left the field injured during the match against Aston Villa (0-2 loss). According to Mikel Arteta, the Norwegian midfielder is just fit enough to play against Bayern Munich. Arsenal did not get further than a 2-2 draw in the first leg, which gives the Germans a better starting position for the return in Munich.

Serdar Gözübüyük whistles cup final between Feyenoord and NEC

Serdar Gözübüyük has been appointed as referee of the final of the TOTO KNVB Cup between Feyenoord and NEC next Sunday at 6:00 PM. He receives assistance from Erwin Zeinstra and Johan Balder (lines judges), Jeroen Manschot (fourth official), Pol van Boekel (VAR) and Patrick Inia (assistant VAR). It is the second time that Gözübüyük has refereed the TOTO KNVB Cup final: in 2019 he was also the leader at Willem II – Ajax (0-4).

Danny Makkelie whistles return between Bayern Munich and Arsenal

Danny Makkelie will be the referee on Wednesday in the return between Bayern Munich and Arsenal in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The Dutchman must ensure that the match is less tumultuous than the first leg. Then manager Glenn Nyberg and VAR Pol van Boekel made some questionable decisions. For example, Nyberg blew the whistle at an apparent penalty moment, and Van Boekel did not argue.

Van Boekel could have done that, which earned him the anger of the Arsenal players. The Gunners will have to deal with Rob Dieperink as VAR on Wednesday. Both teams still have everything to play for in the Allianz Arena: the first match ended 2-2.

Besiktas sends Fernando Santos packing after just 3 months

Besiktas has fired coach Fernando Santos. The former national coach of Portugal and Poland was appointed to the Turkish club at the beginning of January, but they have seen enough after more than three months. The team is having a disappointing season and is currently in fourth place. On Saturday there was a draw against Samsunspor, which was the last straw for the club management.

Previously, Santos was national coach at Poland. He lasted only six games there. He achieved his greatest success in his coaching career with Portugal, with whom he became European champion in 2016. Three years later he also won the Nations League with that country, by beating the Dutch team in the final.
