Cristiano Ronaldo has been tested positive for the corona virus, the Portuguese Football Association reports Tuesday afternoon. The 35-year-old attacker of Juventus will therefore not play with the national team of Portugal in the Nations League match against Sweden on Wednesday-evening. The routine is asymptomatic and is now in quarantine.

Due to Ronaldo’s positive corona test, the Portuguese association decided to test the rest of the selection for the virus. On Tuesday morning, the players of Portugal underwent the test and it turned out that no one else was infected. All players were therefore available to attend the training session led by national coach Fernando Santos on Tuesday afternoon.

The world star was still the subject of discussion last week by ignoring the quarantine rules at Juventus. Just like the rest of the selection, the veteran had to wait for a corona test result on Sunday last week, but chose to report to the Portuguese national team the next day against the wishes of Juventus. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport Ronaldo was the first player to express his annoyance, after which other players followed.

Ronaldo and the rest of the team had already received two negative results, but had to wait for a third test before they were allowed to leave the Juventus hotel. However, a ‘furious’ Ronaldo refused to cooperate and expressed his frustration towards the Juventus leadership. The Portuguese decided not to return to the hotel and return home on Sunday, after the cancellation of the game with Napoli.
