Antonio Conte leaves little of the lead at Tottenham Hotspur in an interview on Italian television. The manager is furious about the course of the winter transfer window and has no intention of keeping that discontent indoors. “I am only now realizing that this is the vision of this club,” said the disappointed Conte at Sky Italy

Conte was appointed to Tottenham in early November 2021 and was not convinced of the player group in his first months. The Italian emphatically insisted on reinforcements, but in his view the selection has been weakened. “What happened in January was not easy,” said Conte. “In January we lost four players, four key players to Tottenham. And we only got two back.”

Tottenham let Dele Alli (Everton), Tanguy Ndombélé (Olympique Lyon), Giovani Lo Celso (Villarreal) and Bryan Gil (Valencia) leave. Although Conte calls the four players ‘important to Tottenham’, the coach hardly called on them. In the final phase of the transfer window, the Spurs himself Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski away from Juventus.

Conte is definitely not happy about that. “Even if you look at the numbers, instead of strengthening the squad, we have weakened it on paper. Bentancur and Kulusevski have a great future at Tottenham because Tottenham is looking for young players who can develop and grow them. club doesn’t get players who are ready. That’s the whole problem.”

The Italian continues to lash out at his employer in the rest of the conversation. “Apparently this is the vision and philosophy of the club. Inevitably if you want to grow faster as a club, you need players with a lot of experience, because they also increase the experience level of the overall team. But I repeat, I have I have now realized that this is the vision of the club.”
