Jordan Peters will not hold an official position at Willem II for the time being, which means that a farewell to the club icon with the Tilburgers is a fact. The former captain and the club had the intention to continue their many years of cooperation in a different role. However, after several discussions, it turned out that it is not the right time for this.

Peters ended his professional career last summer, after having played for Willem II for nine seasons. The Brabant club could not offer him the position and future prospects that match the ambitions of the former defender. “We have had good, respectful conversations with Jordens”, general manager Martin van Geel said through the official channels on Monday afternoon. “Our starting point was to keep him for our beautiful club. However, we ultimately concluded together that we are currently unable to offer him the challenge he is looking for.”

Van Geel also indicates that a collaboration in the future is not entirely out of the question. “Jordens will start building his career after football at an organization other than Willem II. In the future, the door will always remain open for Jordens to possibly make a return to Willem II possible.” Peters says in a response that several discussions have indeed taken place to see if he could start working in another position, and they mutually concluded that there is currently no question of a good match. “That’s why I hope to work elsewhere where I can pursue all my personal ambitions.”

In May, the club icon addressed the Tilburg supporters through a video. “Willem II’ers, I’m stopping!”, Peters began his farewell word. “The head still wants to, but the body says ‘no’. For nine seasons, I have worn and defended our colors 250 times. Nine years, eight of which as a proud captain. We were relegated, became champions, reached the cup final and went to Europe in. Willem II is deep in my heart. That makes stopping difficult, but now is the right time. I hope you see me as a good person and a worthy captain.”
