Neco Williams suffered a serious concussion from the home game with Brighton and Hove Albion on Wednesday evening. The Nottingham Forest right-back collided hard with team-mate Brennan Johnson after an hour’s play and had to be carried off the pitch on a stretcher. Some photos show the blood running from the former Liverpool player’s mouth.

What should have been a night of celebration for Nottingham with the crucial 3-1 win over Brighton turned into a night with a bitter aftertaste. The Tricky Trees climbed to seventeenth place through the victory and are now above the relegation zone. Afterwards, however, there were mainly concerns about Williams’ health. The defender had to be taken to hospital after a collision with Johnson.

Williams was hit hard in the face by his teammate while attempting to clear the ball from his own penalty area. What followed was lengthy on-field medical treatment, after which the Wales international was carried off to the side on a stretcher. “I looked when he was carried off the field and saw blood, so let’s hope it’s not too bad,” said manager Steve Cooper at BT Sports. “His health comes first.”

Nottingham gave the hope of enforcement a big boost with the victory over Brighton. The team was in a downward spiral with eleven games in a row without a win, but climbs up with the victory the Seagulls from the relegation zone and are now seventeenth with 30 points from 33 games. Competitors Everton and Southampton played a game less. An own goal from Pascal Gross and hits from Danilo and Morgan Gibbs-White canceled out Facundo Buonanotte’s 0-1.
