Chelsea have reached a personal agreement with Filip Jørgensen, writes Fabrizio Romano. The Danish goalkeeper is under contract with Villarreal until mid-2029, who are in negotiations with the Londoners.

Jørgensen is a 22-year-old goalkeeper who has been playing for Villarreal since the summer of 2015. Last season he was the undisputed number one under the bar at the Amarillo SubmarineOf the 38 times he was in the matchday squad in LaLiga, he was in the starting line-up 36 times.

It is a stark contrast to the 2022/23 season, when he started just twice in the Spanish top flight. In total, Jørgensen has made 38 LaLiga appearances, conceding 66 goals. The Swedish-born Dane managed to keep a clean sheet six times.

Jørgensen's good performances have not gone unnoticed abroad either. Olympique Marseille were very interested in Jørgensen and saw him as the ideal successor to Pau López, who is about to complete his transfer to Como.

However, Jørgensen has a clear preference for Chelsea and hopes that the deal will be completed as soon as possible. The Londoners have made an initial offer in the region of twenty million euros to Villarreal.

Jørgensen extended his contract last month until mid-2029. In it, the Danish youth international included a buyout clause worth forty million euros. The Londoners want to do business for considerably less than that amount and Villarreal seems willing to do so.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is also charmed by Leicester City goalkeeper Mads Hermansen, who he managed last season at the foxesbut for now it seems that Jørgensen is the number one candidate.

If a transfer does come to fruition, Jørgensen will initially compete with Djordje Petrovic, Robert Sánchez and Kepa Arrizabalaga, with the latter likely to leave, while Petrovic will likely have to settle for a reserve role under Maresca.
