It seems that Mauricio Pochettino will be the new manager of Chelsea from next season. The 51-year-old Argentinian is after good talks with the club management the Blues close to an employment on Stamford Bridge. According to transfer market specialist Fabrizio Romano, the talks are currently in a final phase.

Frank Lampard was appointed as an interim pope at the beginning of April after Graham Potter’s congé to at least provide Chelsea with European football. With seven league matches to go, that seems an almost impossible task. For Europa League qualification, fifth place must be achieved, which is currently held by Tottenham Hotspur. The Spurs However, with 53 points, they are well ahead of Chelsea, which only has 39 points. Under Lampard, the club has not yet won once.

Despite the very disappointing results, Pochettino will only join the Londoners from June. Julian Nagelsmann was actually the top candidate to succeed Potter definitively from next season. Romano, however, announced last Friday that the German could not agree with Chelsea on the main lines. The club also pulled the plug on negotiations with Luis Enrique, whose package of demands turned out to be too much.

Pochettino was therefore in pole position to become the new person ultimately responsible. The Argentinian was already an option when Thomas Tuchel was fired at the beginning of this season, but eventually saw the job go to Potter. Pochettino has been without a club since he was sacked by Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2022. He had been under fire at the elite club for some time and left Paris after a year and a half. He was previously active as a trainer at Tottenham Hotspur, Southampton and Espanyol.
