Dimitri Seluk wants to bury the hatchet with Pep Guardiola. The Russian agent has long been at odds with the manager over his “outrageous treatment” of Yaya Toure in his last season at Manchester City. That’s why Seluk put a curse on Guardiola to prevent him from ever winning the Champions League again. Now the curse has been lifted, the Russian tells the DailyMirror.
The spell has been running since 2018. Touré left through the back door after years of services rendered the Citizens, partly due to the bad relationship with Guardiola. Seluk then revealed that he had engaged African shamans to curse the Catalan. As long as the curse ran, Guardiola would never win the Champions League again. So it happened: Guardiola never came closer than the final of 2021 (which was lost 0-1 to Chelsea).
Pep Although he won the Premier League and the EFL Cup three times, the Community Shield twice and the FA Cup once, the final victory in the billion dollar ball is still missing from the list. This year it seems possible. “I want to apologize,” says Suluk. “It’s time for this bitterness to end, and I know Yaya feels the same way. I can reveal that the curse has been lifted by the shamans, and I think City will win the Champions League under Pep.”
City are one of the last four contenders for the big-eared cup. It will have to deal with Real Madrid in a diptych on May 9 and 16. Possible opponent in the final is AC Milan or Internazionale. It would be Guardiola’s third Champions League win in his coaching career. He has already lifted the trophy twice as Barcelona coach, in 2009 and 2011.
