General director Pascal van Wijk has been forced to resign from Vitesse, it is reported the Gelderlander and Broadcasting Gelderland. Van Wijk has officially reported sick to the Arnhem team, which means that he cannot formally be dismissed by the supervisory board. Earlier this month, Henk Parren immediately stepped down as chairman of the Supervisory Board.

Vitesse is currently in a crisis phase. Sporting achievements are not forthcoming and the club’s professional license is at risk. Last month, Vitesse lost summary proceedings against exploitation company GelreDome and stadium owner Nedstede. The current lease expires in September. Vitesse, for the time being, does not have a stadium to play home games in for next season.

The summary proceedings were instituted because of the license requirements of the KNVB, but also because of the long lead time of the proceedings on the basis of the perpetual right to play. In September 2018, Vitesse decided to fall back on this and not to renew the current (sub)lease agreement of GelreDome, which means that this agreement will expire on 1 October 2023.

Stadium owner Michael van der Kuit is involved in many matters within the club, even though he has no official position within Vitesse. The current number fourteen of the Eredivisie is doing everything possible to find a solution, but Van der Kuit first wants to talk to the municipality of Arnhem. “They are also parties because they have facilitated Vitesse in designating the perpetual right to play. But in 2003 the legal relationship was re-established. The law no longer exists. But the rules must be clear when we draw up a new agreement.”
