Edinson Cavani is planning to extend his contract with Manchester United, according to Argentinian journalists Christian Martin and Germán García Grova. It’s surprising news, given the 34-year-old striker’s father announced a month ago that his son would be leaving England. Cavani’s name is explicitly associated with a switch to Boca Juniors, which reportedly already has two numbers ready for him.

García Grova and Martin, two Argentine journalists generally considered reliable TyC Sports and ESPN, report that Cavani’s entourage is in advanced negotiations about a longer stay with Manchester United. Based on this report, it seems that the Uruguayan striker will sign a new contract at Old Trafford that will run until mid-2022. But at the same time conflicting reports are coming from Argentina and England about Cavani.

So writes Sports Witness that Cavani has indicated to Manchester United that he wants to return to South America. Boca Juniors would be ready to bring the striker in on a free transfer after the expiry of his contract. The Argentinian superpower reportedly already has two numbers ready for Cavani: 7 and 9. Father Luis Cavani said in early March that his son had had talks with Boca Juniors.

“I want Edinson to play for a club that is fighting for the important prizes. He has had many conversations with Juan Román Riquelme (the vice president of Boca Juniors, ed.) And would like to play for Boca Juniors, ”Cavani senior told Argentina’s television program. Superfutbol. “He wants to return to South America halfway through this year. My son now plans not to stay with Manchester United. He wants to return. I think he will come back to South America in June. He has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave in June. ”

Cavani has been with Manchester United since October, having been on a free transfer since leaving Paris Saint-Germain. The 118-time Uruguayan international cannot always count on a base place in the team of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: for the time being he played 31 games, of which 16 as a base player and in which he accounted for 10 goals. Cavani has signed a one-year deal with Manchester United, with an option for another season. Solskjaer announced a month ago that the club would meet with Cavani to discuss a longer cooperation.
