It appears that Carlos Tévez will leave as coach of Independiente in the short term. The Argentinian club drew 2-2 against Talleres Cordoba on the night from Monday to Tuesday and thus missed out on the play-offs for the League Cup. Reason enough for Tévez to reconsider his performance.

In Argentina, the Copa de la Liga Professional consists of two groups of fourteen clubs, with the fourteen teams in Group A meeting the fourteen teams from Group B.

After fourteen matches, the numbers four in both groups qualify for the play-offs. Independiente had qualified as number four with a victory over Talleres Cordoba, but Tévez's team was stuck with a draw.

Independiente therefore finishes in sixth place in Group A. River Plate, Argentinos Juniors, Barracas Central and Vélez Sarsfield ultimately managed to qualify for the final round of the Copa de la Liga Professional.

Local media in Argentina are speculating about Tévez's early departure. The reason is the draw on Monday evening and the fact that the former striker called his players together for an extra meeting on Tuesday.

An early break would be a hard blow for Tévez, as the Argentinian extended his contract in December until the end of 2026. The former Manchester United and Manchester City striker started his job at Independiente in August last year.

Tévez not only put an end to a series of negative results, but also saved the club from danger of relegation. Moreover, he was about to enter the play-offs for the Copa de la Copa, another competition in Argentina.

For Tévez, the coaching adventure started last season at Rosario Central, also in Argentina. At Independiente, the former goalgetter took over from Ricardo Zielinski, who had to leave due to disappointing results.
