Ajax has to do without Calvin Bassey for the first two competition matches of the new season. The disciplinary committee of the KNVB has imposed a suspension of three games, one of which is conditional, on the defender as a result of his red card in the Johan Cruijff Scale (3-5 loss). As a result, trainer Alfred Schreuder seems to be starting again against FC Groningen and Fortuna Sittard with a center of Jurriën Timber and Daley Blind.
Bassey made his debut for Ajax after 62 minutes against PSV last Saturday, but that came to an end less than fifteen minutes later. The million-dollar purchase of Rangers came with a straight leg at opponent Ismael Saibari and after a VAR check, referee Dennis Higler was allowed to take a shower. On Monday, Bassey was told how long he must wait for his next minutes for the team from Amsterdam.

The coach also has Perr Schuurs, Lisandro Magallán and Kik Pierie up his sleeve, while right back Devyne Rensch is also a center defender.
However, the former is aiming for a departure to Torino.

According to The Telegraph Jay Gorter does not have to count on a basic place at the Eredivisie overture in Sittard. Schreuder refused to let the goalie lose weight publicly after his unfortunate performance on Saturday, but the newspaper suspects that alarm bells have started ringing in Amsterdam. Maarten Stekelenburg appears to be very susceptible to injury in the autumn of his career, while Remko Pasveer has just returned from a finger injury. The latter seems to be preferred by Schreuder next Sunday.
