Jan Smit will take up the position of commercial director at FC Volendam as of 1 January. The 35-year-old singer has been involved in the Keuken Kampioen Division club as a board member for culture, media and commerce and as vice-chairman of the Keuken Kampioen Division club since 2013, but now works daily at FC Volendam. “I follow my heart, but of course just keep singing, huh…”, writes Smit on Twitter.

This means that from January 1, Smit will form the management of FC Volendam with Richard de Weijze (business director), Jasper van Leeuwen (technical director) and Keje Molenaar (director of external relations). Smit puts his singing career on the back burner for his work at FC Volendam, according to an interview with The Telegraph.

“I can’t control the result of FC Volendam, so that makes me much more nervous than performing in front of thousands of people. When I go on stage, it always becomes 3-0 or maybe 3-1 once,” Smit tells the newspaper. FC Volendam is currently the leader of the Kitchen Champion Division. “I haven’t woken up yet this season.”
