Fenerbahçe convincingly secured a place in the group stage of the Europa League at the expense of Austria Wien on Thursday evening. Sari Kanaryalar already won the first game in Austria with 0-2 and were again 4-1 too strong during the return at home. Irfan Can Kahveci became the great trendsetter with two hits.

Fenerbahçe had a good general for the return against Austria Wien with a 4-2 victory in the Turkish Süper Lig against Adana Demirspor. The home team thought they would take the lead early in the return when Kahveci scored. However, the Turkish midfielder’s goal was canceled due to offside. Ismail Yuksek saw his 25-meter shot changed direction, after which goalkeeper Christian Früchtl had no chance: 1-0.

Where Kahveci saw a line go through his goal in the opening phase, he managed to double the margin on the stroke of half-time, after he headed in a corner from Luan Peres outlawed at the far post: 2-0. Austria Wien, however, immediately did something in return, because in the injury time of the first half Marvin Martins was also accurate after a cross by Dominik Fitz: 2-1.

The team of trainer Jorge Jesus passed the final verdict on the Austrians in the second company. Outstanding Kahveci again proved his worth for Fenerbahçe twenty minutes before the end by outwitting Austria Wien’s closing post from the edge of the sixteen-meter area with a subtle marker: 3-1. The final chord was then for Mert Hakan Yandas, who found the long corner with a hard shot: 4-1.
