Marcelo’s extremely clumsy own goal against Angers (3-0 loss) last Saturday has major consequences. Olympique Lyon will immediately say goodbye to the 34-year-old center defender, reports Foot Mercato. The contract of the former PSV player runs for another two years, but is expected to be dissolved soon.

Peter Bosz has started the season dramatically with Lyon. In the opening match of the Ligue 1, LOL no further than a draw against Stade Brest (1-1), last Saturday it went completely wrong against Angers. Lyon already deservedly fell behind in the first half and the damage was increased by Marcelo eight minutes after the break. The Brazilian wanted to pass the ball back to goalkeeper Anthony Lopes, but scored his own goal instead.

Marcelo was passed by L’Equipe rated a 1 for his performance against Angers. The center defender has been a fixture for Lyon since 2017, which took him over from Besiktas for seven million euros. In March, the mandekker’s contract was extended by two more seasons, but now it seems that the collaboration is coming to an abrupt end.

Bosz showed on the sidelines on Sunday and later also at the press conference to be furious. “I congratulate Angers, because they deserved to win,” said the former Ajax coach. “I haven’t seen a team with us that wanted to win and that bothers me. Football starts with the desire to want to win at all costs. I saw that with Angers, but not with us. That drives me crazy. We have good players , but to win you have to work together and I haven’t seen that. It’s my responsibility, so we’re going to work on it.”
