Borussia Dortmund has suffered an expensive loss of points in the Bundesliga. The team of coach Edin Terzic was only able to partially make up for a 2-0 and 3-2 deficit when visiting Eintracht Frankfurt: 3-3. The draw means Dortmund remains stuck in fourth place and fails to climb over VfB Stuttgart. Frankfurt is seventh.

On the Frankfurt side, Philipp Max was given a starting place, while another ex-PSV player, Mario Götze, would come in. At Dortmund, Donyell Malen appeared at the kick-off. A handball by Marius Wolf in his own box meant that Frankfurt was allowed to take a penalty in the eighth minute. Omar Marmoush took responsibility and defeated Gregor Kobel: 1-0.

The striker was also good for the second goal of the afternoon halfway through the first half. Marmoush tapped in a rebound, after Kobel had saved twice on Buta’s attempts. The next setback for Dortmund soon followed, when it turned out that Kobel had to be substituted. He was replaced by Alexander Meyer.

Just before half time, Frankfurt claimed a penalty after an alleged foul on Marmoush in the box. Referee Robert Schröder went to the screen, but concluded that there was no penalty. Shortly after Farès Chaïbi failed to shoot the 3-0 against the ropes, Frankfurt suffered another setback. In injury time of the first half, Marcel Sabitzer makes it 2-1 after receiving the ball on a silver platter from Niclas Füllkrug.

Dortmund continued the good feeling and leveled ten minutes after half-time. A cross from Wolf initially had no effect, but because the ball was poorly cleared, it ended up perfectly at the feet of Youssoufa Moukoko. The German international didn’t think twice and successfully pulled the trigger: 2-2.

The 2-3 seemed to be in the making, but Dortmund came home from a rude awakening. Shortly after Marco Reus saw his attempt stranded by a defender, he scored at the other end twenty minutes before the end. A tight pass from Ellyes Skhiri ended up perfectly for Chaïbi in the box. The Algerian got rid of his direct opponent and scored in the far corner: 3-2.

This did not yet reach the final score. Dortmund went hunting for the equalizer and it would come. Karim Adeyemi had a perfect cross on the left to Julian Brandt, who tapped in from close range. Including injury time, Dortmund still had fifteen minutes to score the winning goal. However, it did not fall, resulting in a loss of points die Schwarzgelben became a fact.
