Referee Sven Jablonski drew the red card for Hummels and pointed to the spot. However, the foul appeared to have been committed a few centimeters outside the box. Simons took the free kick and shot it against Emre Can.

With Süle now in the field as a replacement for Jamie Bynoe-Gittens those Roten Bullen cheering a little later. A corner kick landed on the head of Bensebaini, who unfortunately worked the ball behind Gregor Kobel: 0-1. Despite this, Leipzig was unable to push through.

Just before half time, Dortmund suddenly made several dangerous moves in front of Leipzig's goal. After Thomas Meunier and Salih Özcan failed to score, Süle scored the equalizer moments later. A cross from Julian Brandt ended up at the far post. where Süle controlled the score: 1-1.

Ten minutes after halftime, Leipzig found some space to attack and made optimal use of it. Simons headed for the goal, but turned the wrong way and seemed to lose the opportunity. However, Baumgartner was given a new chance and he knew what to do with the opportunity offered: 1-2. Leipzig was threatening in the subsequent phase, but Openda and Baumgartner, among others, did not have their sights set.

With a margin of one nothing had been decided yet and substitute Benjamin Sesko was almost Leipzig's schlemiel. The Slovenian touched an incoming free kick from Dortmund and saw the ball barely go wide. Terzic used Giovanni Reyna and Malen as assets in an attempt to achieve a result. Dortmund pressed, giving away space and seeing substitute Poulsen score: 1-3.

Dortmund still did not give up and came back to 2-3 through a header from Füllkrug, after which Süle came very close to 3-3. The centre-back had to watch as his effort went just inches wide. Reyna also tried, with a nice long shot, but Janis Blaswich had an excellent answer.
