Hugo Borst is an admirer of Hakim Ziyech and in that context the columnist hopes General Journal that the midfielder will return to Ajax in the short term. The sports journalist thinks that the Chelsea bench seat can add a lot to the ailing team of trainer Alfred Schreuder. Borst would also find it wonderful if Ziyech becomes one of the stars of the World Cup in Qatar.
In Borst’s view, it is a shame that Ziyech exchanged Ajax for Chelsea in 2020. “Occasionally you saw a shot from Hakim Ziyech on the reserve bench of the club where he should never have gone. The salary is of course good in London. Substitute Ziyech also does not spit on it, but that boy is very unhappy without the ball. That round thing is its raison d’etre. He often does something exceptional with it.” In last week’s friendly match between Morocco and Georgia, Ziyech scored from his own half.
The football follower can sometimes ‘sincerely miss’ the now 29-year-old Ziyech. “It’s amazing that such a poor fellow not only stays upright effortlessly, but almost always excels. I understand that he left Ajax. But in the past two years it often felt as if my loyal leather jacket was not hanging on the coat rack.” Ziyech seems to be allowed to leave Chelsea in January, although it is still uncertain whether Ajax will actually become his new employer in the new calendar year.
Borst dreams aloud of an excellent Ziyech during the World Cup. “Make us crazy, Hakim! And then please come back to the Netherlands. Save your old trainer. Alfred Schreuder and Ziyech were once very close at FC Twente. It would be something different. Not the trainer out, but a few players. So The thought is not crazy. Borst thinks that the playmaker can last ‘another four years at the top level’ in the Netherlands.
