A bomb was found near the FSV Mainz 05 stadium on Wednesday. That reports BILD. It is said to be an American bomb from the Second World War, which has not yet exploded. The bomb will be defused on Friday, meaning that a large area around the MEWA Arena will have to be evacuated.

It is the second time in a week and a half that a bomb was found near the stadium. Last Monday, according to the police, construction workers found a small fire bomb, probably from the Second World War.

On Wednesday they encountered another explosive device. This happened during construction work around a college located near the stadium.

It would be a bomb weighing 500 kilos, which therefore still has to be detonated. That has to happen on Friday.

To achieve the latter, a large area around the stadium must first be evacuated. About 4,600 people will therefore have to look elsewhere.

The discovery of the bomb has not yet had any major consequences for FSV Mainz itself. The home match against FC Köln is scheduled for Sunday, but it can continue as usual. However, the preliminary press conference with trainer Bo Henriksen was brought forward one day: from Friday to Thursday.

Mainz, for which Sepp van den Berg plays on loan, is currently fifteenth in the Bundesliga, with the same number of points as number sixteen VfL Bochum. Köln is seventeenth, and will have one of the last chances for enforcement on Sunday.
