Vangelis Pavlidis may play in the Bundesliga next season. BILD reports on Wednesday that AZ’s Greek attacker has appeared on the radar of Borussia Mönchengladbach, which sees him as the hottest candidate to succeed Marcus Thuram. The number ten in the Bundesliga was also interested in Pavlidis last year, but that did not lead to a transfer at the time. The striker is fixed in Alkmaar until the summer of 2025, so a transfer fee must be paid.

Gladbach is looking for a replacement for Thuram, who has an expiring contract with the mid-engine and will almost certainly leave this summer. Pavlidis is not the only candidate for the striker position Die Fohlen. According to BILD Robin Hack is also in the picture. Arminia Bielefeld, fighting against relegation from the 2. Bundesliga, has refused an initial offer of one and a half million euros. The low flyer wants to receive at least two million euros for the 24-year-old attacker. Gladbach seems to want to wait, as Hack can be picked up for free in the event of relegation.

Pavlidis was taken over by AZ in 2021 from Willem II for 2.5 million euros. Almost two years later, the counter stands at 47 goals in 85 games in all competitions. Pavlidis currently occupies fourth place on the top scorers list in the Eredivisie with twelve hits. Only Sydney van Hooijdonk and Xavi Simon (15) and Anastasios Douvikas (14) scored more often than AZ’s top scorer, who will visit Ajax on Saturday evening.

Pierre van Hooijdonk was still full of praise for Pavlidis in January. “I think Pavlidis is simply the best striker in the Eredivisie,” Van Hooijdonk said. Studio Football. “He is always where you should be as a real number 9. Technically he scores very well, he doesn’t care left or right, and he is only 24. We often discuss an Ajax striker, but if I look at Ajax: Ajax got rid of Haller and what they have now got in return, I think it’s all less than this boy as a striker.”
