It does not look as if the strict measures surrounding the coronavirus will be respected by Feyenoord’s supporters during the home game with FC Twente at De Kuip on Sunday afternoon. There is a lack of understanding, particularly on the social media, that many visitors are not observing the other half’s measure and that there is no question of wearing mouth caps. On Sunday, approximately 13,000 visitors will be present, spread throughout the stadium in Rotterdam-Zuid.

In addition to keeping their distance, visitors to matches in the Eredivisie should also remain in their seats and should not be allowed to sing or cheer. People from the same household are allowed to sit next to each other during a match. In that context Feyenoord are astonished by the situation on Twitter. “Is today ‘big families’ day at De Kuip?”, a user wonders when seeing a picture of the first ring. It becomes clear that there are a lot of people standing and watching the game side by side.

Another Twitter user even talks about ’embarrassing situations in De Kuip’. “If you’re talking about ruining it for everyone else. The whole of the Netherlands walks on eggs and here the cool guys hang out in packs over the fences of the first ring. Zero respect for the situation. And no dog that says anything about it”, is the complaint about Feyenoord’s failure to comply with the coronary rules.

“At @Feyenoord_int, 1.5 metres is about 15 cm. They don’t stick to the #Corona rules in the #Kuip, no wonder #Rotterdam is invariably at the top of infected areas when you deal with it like that”, says another. ‘Vaantje1’ can’t believe his eyes: “Are you watching @MinPres in the tub? At the next press conference we’ll just have to formulate a little more clearly what corona measures mean and what the consequences may be for hard-pressed spectators. They ruin it for the benevolent spectators.”

“Those lower rows in the stands, have they already had corona, or is that one mega family?” wonders. The user gets support from ‘louisabakker’: “I prefer to sit in a full stadium, sing along and go crazy when I score a goal. But is it so difficult to stick to the 1.5 meter rule in this day and age? “You’re gonna ruin it for the rest of us.”

The number of coronary attacks in the Netherlands had risen again in the recent period, which led to a renewed debate about the measures to be taken. Belgium and Germany have now given the provinces of North and South Holland code red. This means that non-essential travel to the two provinces is prohibited and that anyone who has been in North or South Holland in the past two weeks is obliged to undergo a coronary test upon return. Subsequently, it differs per province whether people also have to undergo compulsory quarantine.
