SC Cambuur is about to be promoted to the Eredivisie. With a victory over Helmond Sport this Friday, the team of trainer Henk de Jong is sure of promotion. When the title is also secured, KNVB director Eric Gudde does not have to hand out the bowl as far as De Jong is concerned. Gudde did not make himself popular at Cambuur last year with the decision not to have any club promoted from the Kitchen Champion Division.

The football season came to an abrupt end last season due to the corona crisis. The KNVB decided to shut down the Eredivisie and Kitchen Champion Division and ultimately not to let it play out. No champion was declared and clubs were not relegated from the Eredivisie, while Cambuur saw promotion to the highest level through the nose. A year later, the club from Leeuwarden still forces promotion. “For a lot of people it is normal what we have done, but it is not,” De Jong responds Algemeen Dagblad.

De Jong has been angry for a long time and his anger focused mainly on Gudde, who was the main responsible for the decision. “I had a lot of reactions to that then and I also had to tell my story to many foreign media,” says De Jong. But I still support it. Although I can also understand that people do not understand how I live and put together. It is also sometimes said that I am performing a play, but this is how I am. ”

Cambuur can secure the promotion against Helmond Sport. The Kitchen Champion Division leader still has to wait for the championship. De Jong hopes not to get the bowl out of Gudde’s hands. As far as the trainer is concerned, the KNVB director does not have to come for the presentation. “It is better not, also for him. That is what I mean in human terms. He shouldn’t do that, that’s unwise. Furthermore, he is a very neat man. ”
