Miralem Pjanic will play for Besiktas for the rest of the season, the reigning champion of Turkey announced through the official channels. The 31-year-old midfielder is rented out by Barcelona for the rest of the season. This frees the Catalans from a salary of 2.75 million euros, because that is the part of the salary that Besiktas takes over, the Turkish club reveals.

For the financially troubled Barcelona, the temporary departure of Pjanic is just right. The experienced midfielder, who was taken over from Juventus a year ago, was on Barca’s payroll for eight million euros a year, but recently left according to RAC1 agree to halve his salary. With the amount Besiktas is now taking over, Barca would have lost ‘only’ 1.25 million euros in salary for Pjanic this season.

The transfer market in Turkey, unlike many other countries in Europe, is still open for six days, allowing Pjanic to leave for Besiktas. The Bosnian had no prospect of playing time under Ronald Koeman this season and last season made thirty matches in all competitions. He was part of the match selection for the game against Getafe (2-1) last weekend, because Koeman had nothing to complain about Pjanic’s professionalism.
