Bertrand Traoré’s future lies in the Premier League. Negotiations between Olympique Lyon and Aston Villa over the transfer of the striker led to an agreement on Sunday. According to Téléfoot and RMC Sport is the transfer a fact; the latter source mentions a transfer fee of twenty million euros. Traoré will undergo the medical examination at his new club on Monday.

Traoré was linked with clubs such as Fulham, Newcastle United, Leicester City, Everton and Crystal Palace at the start of this month, but it is Aston Villa who will get the striker. For Traoré, a three-year contract is ready with the number seventeen of the last Premier League season. Reported earlier this weekend Foot Mercato also that Olympique Lyon turned down an offer of 17 million euros from Aston Villa and bet on 25 million; both clubs meanwhile watered down.

For the 25-year-old Traoré, whose contract at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais lasts another two years, his switch means a second chance in the Premier League. He moved from Chelsea’s youth academy in 2014, after which Traoré made his professional football debut at Vitesse halfway through the 2014/15 season. He stayed in Arnhem for a year and a half, returned to Chelsea and played ten times in the Premier League in the 2015/16 season. Traoré was then parked at Ajax, with which he reached the final of the Europa League in the 2016/17 season.

Chelsea sold the Burkinese to Olympique Lyon in the summer of 2017 for a minimum of ten million euros. The Blues allegedly included a repurchase option in the contract and claimed 15 percent of the profit on a future transfer. If Traoré moves for twenty million euros, Chelsea will receive fifteen percent of ten million euros, or one and a half million euros. In three seasons for Olympique Lyon there were 87 matches and 21 goals in Ligue 1. In the first two matches of the new season he was on the bench, as in the three Champions League matches the club played in August.
