Union Berlin managed to win their home game against VfL Wolfsburg on Sunday. Sheraldo Becker continued his excellent form from the start of the season and was decisive again with an assist and a goal: 2-0. Becker faced Micky van de Ven, who played the entire match. Union is very handsome due to the victory, while Wolfsburg is desolately seventeenth.
Union is having an unprecedentedly good season and that is largely due to Becker. The Surinamese international already won the Bundesliga player of the month award in September and already had five goals and three assists to his name until Sunday’s game. The ex-Ajacied was of course back in the starting lineup against Wolfsburg. Former PSV player Timo Baumgartl also started the game on behalf of the home team and that meant his return to the football fields for him, after he had to recover from the effects of cancer for months. On the side of Wolfsburg, Van de Ven was once again in the starting lineup. Like Becker, Van de Ven is also having an excellent season. Becker tried in the eighth minute with a vicious shot, which eventually went wide. Teammate Diogo Leite was also able to give the home team the lead after just under twenty minutes of play. Just under ten minutes after the break, Union took the lead. A high cross from Becker went to Jordan Siebatcheu, who made it 1-0 with a header into the bottom left corner. With that, Becker already wrote his fourth assist of the season. The attacker’s name also appeared on the scoreboard fifteen minutes before the end. With a low hard shot into the bottom right corner, he signed for his sixth goal this season in the Bundesliga. The VAR checked whether a violation had been made in the run-up to the goal, but that turned out not to be the case. In the sequel, the team from Berlin held up well, making the leading position a fact.
