Bayern Munich has fired general manager Oliver Kahn and technical director Hasan Salihamidžic. The club confirms this on Saturday evening. The news follows shortly after Bayern has secured the German national title. That did the record master because it won 1-2 at 1. FC Köln and competitor Borussia Dortmund did not get further than 2-2 at home against FSV Mainz 05.

“Oliver Kahn has been fired as general manager of Bayern Munich, just after the title was won,” Fabrizio Romano tweeted shortly after the championship was won. “Kahn was no longer present during Bayern’s final championship match against FC Köln.” Romano reports, like other media, that Jan-Christian Dreesen will be the successor to the former goalkeeper. Dreesen was Bayern’s financial director until this point.

Salihamidžic also leaves the club from southern Germany. It is not yet known who will be his successor. The dismissal of both board members cannot be seen separately from the fact that Bayern almost missed out on the national title. The fact that the title was finally taken does not matter anymore for Kahn and Salihamidžic.

Kahn had been Bayern general manager since mid-2021, while Salihamidžic had held the position of technical director since mid-2020. It was an extremely restless season at the club, as trainer Julian Nagelsmann was fired quite suddenly in March. Under his successor Thomas Tuchel, Bayern was eliminated from the Champions League and DFB-Pokal, but the Bundesliga was eventually won.
