Bayer Leverkusen continues to progress unabated in the Bundesliga. The team of coach Xabi Alonso was too strong for Eintracht Frankfurt in their own BayArena with a score of 3-0. Jeremie Frimpong scored for the 2-0 just after half-time, while the other goals were scored by Victor Boniface and Florian Wirtz. Leverkusen tops the Bundesliga with 39 points, followed by Bayern Munich with 32. Der Rekordmeister still has two games left. Frankfurt is eighth.

On the Leverkusen side, Alonso had no surprises in store. As always, Frimpong and Alejandro Grimaldo had to provide the attacking contributions as emerging wingers. Striker Boniface was supported at his back by Wirtz and Jonas Hofmann. At Frankfurt, Mario Götze was central in midfield. The other ex-PSV player, Philipp Max, was a bench seat. Farès Chaïbi, Ansgar Knauff and Éric Junior Dina Ebimbe were the front pawns of trainer Dino Toppmöller.

Frankfurt won 5-1 against Bayern Munich in the previous round, so Leverkusen had been warned. Nevertheless, Leverkusen was the superior party from the start and that resulted in the opening goal after just fifteen minutes. Wirtz played Boniface and that is usually a good idea. The Nigerian rushed towards the box, put the ball well in front of his right and found the far corner with a convincing shot: 1-0.

Leverkusen continued to dominate in the BayArena, although it also owed its excellent defense that the lead remained. Tuta thought he could take full advantage of a beautiful long ball from the back, but just as the defender wanted to take a swing, the ball was picked up at his feet by a defender.

On the other hand, Leverkusen became dangerous again. A free kick from Grimaldo was out of the reach of Kevin Trapp, who was relieved to see the ball land on the roof of his goal. Very little happened in the remainder of the first half.

Seven minutes after the break, Leverkusen doubled their lead. Exequiel Palacios found Boniface, whose shot was just saved by Trapp. However, the German international could not prevent the rebound from ending up at the feet of Frimpong, who simply scored the 2-0.

Shortly afterwards the match was finally decided. Boniface played Wirtz just in time, which prevented the smell of offside. Wirtz could have laid off to Frimpong, but decided to do it himself and found the net with a particularly nice marker in the far corner: 3-0. The game was over, which allowed Frankfurt to make a few dangerous appearances in the second half. For example, Lukas Hrádecký had to stretch to convert Chaïbi's shot into a corner.

Leverkusen itself also became dangerous through Hofmann, among others, but he hesitated too long and lost the ball. Wirtz then came close to his second goal of the evening. The creative, who is having an excellent season, showed his class with a wonderful shot full of feeling. To his regret, the ball exploded on the crossbar. Frankfurt simply couldn't keep up and escaped once again to make it 4-0.

Nathan Tella played his direct opponent drunk and gave a sharp pass at the far post, where another substitute, Piero Hincapié, slid the ball against the post. Deep into injury time, Tella was tackled in the box by William Pacho. The referee pointed to the spot, but after seeing the images he gave a corner instead of a penalty. There was no more danger from that.
