Barcelona looks set to introduce a special home shirt for Champions League matches next season. Both Mundo Deportivo if Footy Headlines publishes photos of the new shirt on Friday morning, which is currently negatively received in Spain. The traditional tracks on the Barcelona shirt have been revolutionized in the new design.

Sights from various districts of Barcelona are depicted on the entire front and back of the shirt. It concerns the contours of the districts of Les Corts, Sant Antoni, Sants, El Raval, Poble Sec and Gràcia. Training complex La Masia is also depicted on the shirt. Clothing sponsor Nike went into the neighborhoods and asked residents to make drawings to demarcate their own neighbourhood. The shirt was designed based on those ideas.

For the time being, there is no enthusiastic response to the design. The large regional sports newspaper Mundo Deportivo asked readers what they think of the design and 74.5 percent said they didn’t like the shirt’. 4 percent thinks the shirt is ‘a bit’ nice, 2.4 percent is indifferent, 3.4 percent thinks the shirt is ‘pretty’ nice and 15.7 percent is very enthusiastic. Barcelona last had a special home shirt for the Champions League in the 1993/94 season. The club, then led by Johan Cruijff, wore special Kappa shirts at the time.
