As if Malcom’s stay at Barcelona wasn’t disappointing enough, made Cadena Ser Thursday announced that the Spanish superpower has paid ten million euros to the agent of the Brazilian to secure his signature. Malcom was brought to Barcelona for 41 million euros in the summer of 2019, but swapped Camp Nou a year later for an adventure at Zenit St. Petersburg after a disappointing season.
Malcom was about to make the switch from Girondins Bordeaux to AS Roma in the summer of 2018, but a day after the Italian club announced a deal with the forward, Barcelona joined the fray. Then president Josep Bartomeu, together with a number of other directors within the club, would have signed a document in which agent Maria Minguella Pimentel was promised ten million euros in exchange for the signature of his client.
“The deal was done and we have been given permission to have the player travel to Rome for a medical examination,” then Roma director Monchi said at the time. “A plane had been booked to depart at nine in the evening and arrive at eleven. This reassured us and was sure of our business. ” The only thing left for Roma to do was to accept the situation. Not long after his move to Barcelona, Malcom explained that he had indeed been close to a transfer to the Italians.
Malcom made a deep impression in Ligue 1 and the clubs lined up as the 2017/18 season came to an end. The winger came to Barcelona for 41 million euros, where a great future was predicted for him. It turned out differently, because the 2018/19 season was very disappointing. After all, with Lionel Messi, he had a tough competitor on the right flank. In the league he did not get further than six games, so his stay ended in a big disappointment. After a year, both parties split up. Zenit then put him out of his misery by bringing him to Russia for forty million euros.
