Luuk de Jong was recently offered to Barcelona, as you know Sport to report. The thirty-year-old striker may leave Sevilla, which last week paid sixteen million euros to bring in a new attacker with Rafa Mir. According to the Spanish sports newspaper, the possible arrival of De Jong is being discussed internally at Barcelona, which has not yet taken any concrete action.

Trainer Ronald Koeman and De Jong are no strangers to each other, as they previously worked together for the Dutch national team. In the final phase of the transfer window, Barcelona wants to bring in an offensive reinforcement for a relatively low amount and De Jong’s name is singing around in the Camp Nou. The striker has recently been offered to Barcelona and may leave Sevilla, but there are still some doubts about his performance over the past season.

Sevilla paid 12.5 million euros in the summer of 2019 to take over De Jong from PSV, but the 38-time the Dutch international never quite managed to become a fixed value in Andalusia. In total 94 appearances for Sevilla, he was good for 19 goals and 5 assists. Due to the arrival of Rafa Mir, De Jong has dropped further in the pecking order at Sevilla, in which he was normally already behind Youssef En-Nesyri. During the first league match against Rayo Vallecano, De Jong was on the reserve bench for ninety minutes. Barcelona is looking for a finisher and in that respect De Jong would fit the vacancy, although the Catalans now seem to want to bet on a different type of attacker.

Should Barcelona make an attempt to bring in De Jong, it will initially have to be on a rental basis. Sport states that the striker also has an offer from West Ham United in his pocket, while he has also been explicitly linked to a return to PSV in recent times. “I can’t say much about it, except that Luuk de Jong is a figurehead,” said general director Toon Gerbrands in conversation with the NOS. “Since his departure we have always kept in touch, so that contact has always remained.”
