Barcelona announced on Sunday evening that it would take out a loan of 525 million euros. The proposal was voted on at the members’ meeting, which was eventually received positively by the vast majority. The loan is provided by the American bank Goldman Sachs and the Catalans can reportedly have the amount from August.

“We are all very concerned because we have discovered a very high debt and have to work with many parties,” Joan Laporta said at the meeting. The loan is therefore taken out to solve the financial problems in the short term. It is not yet known when the loan amount of 525 million euros must be repaid. Of the 659 socios entitled to vote, 588 voted in favor of the plans surrounding the loan, 28 votes were counted against and 43 members submitted a blank vote.

“We have a plan. You have given us the confidence and we will carry it out with discretion and professionalism,” Laporta continued. “We will not make false promises that we cannot keep, we will not dwell in the past, and of course we will not make decisions based on revenge. We are not like that. We have not learned to act like that. That’s not how we see Barca,” said the president.

Laporta also said he wants to turn the tide and bring the smile back to the faces of Barcelona fans. “Barcelona must regain its position as a leading organization in the sporting world and to achieve this the club will have strong leaders who Barcelona always put above all else. That’s my bet. Strong leadership that goes hand in hand with emotions and feelings,” concludes Laporta.

The president also came with good news for the season ticket holders who paid last season. “Anyone who paid for last season’s season ticket does not have to pay next year. That has already been decided,” the announcement reads.
