Barcelona is not making use of the option to extend Juan Miranda’s expiring contract for two seasons. The defender can therefore switch transfer-free to Real Betis, the club to which he was already rented out last season. Barcelona confirms Miranda’s departure through official channels and retains 40 percent of its transfer rights. Moreover, Barcelona has a first option in a future sale of the left back.

Miranda played in the youth for both Betis and Barcelona. He played in league for Barcelona B thirty times, but never played in LaLiga for the first team. He did compete in three cup matches and one Champions League match, against Tottenham Hotspur (1-1) in December 2018. In August 2019, he was rented out to Schalke 04 for a period of two years, but that rental period came prematurely after one year. to the end. Then the 21-year-old Miranda was placed with Betis for a season. Last season he played 22 league matches for the number six of LaLiga.

Miranda, currently active with Spain at the European Under-21 Championship, was linked with PSV a year ago. Also the names of clubs such as Borussia Mönchengladbach, Juventus and FC Porto, but the choice fell on Betis. He is expected to commit himself permanently to that club in the short term. Monday reported Mundo Deportivo that Miranda will receive an amount of almost 600,000 euros; his contract states that he is entitled to this if the option to extend the contract is not exercised. Barcelona had to make a decision before Tuesday 1 June, but Miranda already announced on Friday that there is no future for him at the club.

The fullback will probably sign with Betis for three seasons. Barcelona will hold 40 percent of the transfer rights for the duration of that contract, so until mid-2025. In the event of a sale within three years, the club would therefore receive 40 percent of the lump sum payment. Clubs like Real Sociedad and Olympique Lyon were interested in taking over Miranda this summer. However, his choice was quickly made: he feels at home in Seville and wants to enter the Europa League with Betis next season.
