Barcelona considers Mohamed Salah the main alternative to Erling Braut Haaland, reports ASH† Joan Laporta has promised Xavi at least one absolute top purchase for the attack. Salah does not want to renew his contract with Liverpool expiring in mid-2023 and has reacted cautiously positively to Barca’s attempt at overtures, it sounds like.

Laporta and Xavi want to secure a goal guarantee next summer. Although Salah is not number 9, the 29-year-old Egyptian is in the eyes of Barcelona at least good for thirty goals a year. Fabrizio Romano made public last Friday that Salah has rejected a contract proposal from Liverpool. In the last conversation in December, the Premier League top scorer made it clear that he did not agree with the salary offered.

Although Salah has been polled, Haaland remains Laporta’s top priority. The Borussia Dortmund striker is eight years younger than Salah, but the competition for his signature is fierce. On Sunday, the Barcelona president tempered expectations. “Even with the best financial position in the world, we simply won’t close some deals,” Laporta said at the Barcelona women’s national team championship party. “We are not making any deal that would further endanger the club.”

Cesar Azpilicueta
Barcelona must cross César Azpilicueta off the list, reports marca† The Catalans have been trying for months to take over the 32-year-old defender from Chelsea on a free transfer, but according to the Spanish newspaper, that is no longer possible. A clause in Azpilicueta’s contract is said to have been activated when the fullback played his thirtieth game of the season. Barca previously announced that they would not pay a transfer fee for Azpilicueta and have therefore dropped out. However, the Catalans will most likely sign teammate Andreas Christensen and AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessié transfer-free.
