AZ failed to win on Thursday when visiting FC Groningen. Both teams made it a mediocre game, in which almost all the danger came from standard situations, but failed to score: 0-0. AZ can no longer catch up with number two PSV due to the loss of points and will finish third. FC Groningen is assured of participation in the play-offs in seventh place for a ticket for the preliminary round of the Conference League. The first opponent will be FC Utrecht.
The first danger in the match came from Teun Koopmeiners’ foot. The AZ captain, who returned from illness, turned a free kick through the post on the crossbar. The bet was taken off the line by Jonas Svensson. Arjen Robben came in for the home team in the 83rd minute. In the ninetieth minute Padt saved on a long shot from Calvin Stengs.
