Atlético Madrid has strengthened itself with Daniel Wass, Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Wednesday evening. The right wing defender, who can also play in midfield, comes from Valencia. The Dane will sign a contract in Madrid until mid-2023 and, according to reports, the deal will be made official within hours. Wass is seen as the successor to Kieran Trippier who left for Newcastle United.

Monday reported, among other things marca and L’Equipe already that the talks between the clubs were at an advanced stage. Two days later, the parties involved appear to have reached a final agreement. According to the Spanish sports newspaper, an amount of 2.7 million euros is involved in the deal. Nothing is known about the amount of the salary at the moment. Wass has an expiring contract with Valencia, but is said to be joining Atlético in the coming days.

Wass is not the only reinforcement, according to French reports. The sports newspaper already reported on Monday that Reinildo Mandava will make the transfer-free switch from Lille OSC next summer. Atlético wanted to take over the Brazilian left-back directly, but the French are said to have rejected the latest offer as they want to keep Reinildo until the end of the season.

Atletico have not performed well this season. In LaLiga, the gap with leaders Real Madrid and number two Sevilla is already fourteen and ten points, while the team of trainer Simeone was recently eliminated in the semi-finals of the Spanish Supercopa and eighth finals of the Copa del Rey by Athletic Club respectively ( 2-0) and Real Sociedad (1-2).
