Atalanta has managed to book a great victory at AS Roma. The visitors won by a goal from Giorgio Scalvini: 0-1. Roma coach José Mourinho was shown a red card ten minutes after the break, after the Portuguese coach was unable to control his anger after an alleged penalty for the home team. It was Mourinho’s fourth red card in the service of Roma. With the win, Atalanta takes the lead in Serie A, while Roma is left in sixth place.

It was announced on Saturday that Rick Karsdorp will have to undergo meniscus surgery and was therefore not present in the Stadio Olimpico. Loss to Mourinho’s team was the absence of Paulo Dybala, who was struggling with a muscle injury. Georginio Wijnaldum, who has been injured for some time, was also not there. Yet there were three Dutchmen at the kick-off. Hans Hateboer, Marten de Roon and Teun Koopmeiners were in the base on behalf of Atalanta.

Atalanta goalkeeper Juan Musso had to leave the field after eight minutes and was replaced by Marco Sportiello, who would prove to be a plague for Roma. Giorgio Scalvini gave Atalanta the lead ten minutes before half-time. The player received the ball on the edge of the box, after which he was too powerful with a placed shot by Roma goalkeeper Rui Patrício. Tammy Abraham should have scored the equalizer five minutes before half-time. The Englishman came one-on-one with Sportiello, pushed the ball under Atalanta’s goalkeeper, but saw his effort roll just over the wrong side of the post. Abraham was good for a pass in the course of Lorenzo Pellegrini a minute later. The midfielder thought he could put the ball under Sportiello, but the goalkeeper kept his legs together and prevented a goal.

After the break, Roma brought a lot of energy into the game and Nicolò Zaniolo claimed two penalties within a few minutes. In the first, the Italian international was pulled by the shirt by Caleb Okoli. Zaniolo went down in the box, but because Zaniolo also held on to Okoli’s shirt, the ball did not go on the spot. Mourinho disagreed so much that he couldn’t control his emotions for a while and was sent off with a red card by referee Daniele Chiffi. Zaniolo was also pulled at the shirt in his second claim, but again the ball did not go on the spot. On the other hand, Atalanta was close to 0-2. A Roman leg almost resulted in an own goal, but Abraham was ready on the line. A bet by Mario Pasalic was taken off the line moments later by Abraham. The introduction of, among others, Eldor Shomurodov, who still had a large head chance and shooting chance, did not yield any goals. Andrea Belotti was also unable to turn the tide, so Atalanta took off with the three points.
