Lazio continues to perform well in Serie A. The team of coach Maurizio Sarri won 0-2 against nearest competitor Atalanta on Sunday and the Romans are unbeaten for six games in a row. The opponent of Feyenoord in the group stage of the Europa League rises to third place with the victory, only two points behind leader Napoli, which will play against AS Roma on Sunday evening. Atalanta has lost its undefeated status after eleven league games, drops one spot and takes fourth place for the time being.

The visitors from Rome entered without club top scorer Ciro Immobile (six goals), who has a hamstring injury and may be missing against Feyenoord on November 3. Sarri chose Felipe Anderson and that choice paid off well, given his goal after the break. It was fellow striker Mattia Zaccagni who opened the score after ten minutes of play in Bergamo. The left winger was cleverly drawn in and scored from close range on a pass from Pedro: 0-1. Atalanta, with basic places for Marten de Roon, Teun Koopmeiners and Hans Hateboer in midfield, was unable to really make it difficult for Lazio in the first half. Halfway through, Ruslan Malinovskyi and Berat Djimsiti were brought in, and Mario Pasalic and Caleb Okoli remained.

However, the substitutions did not give Atalanta the desired boost. It was precisely Lazio that doubled their lead seven minutes after the restart. The left-back Adam Marusic, who joined in, avoided Atalanta’s offside trap, before passing the ball to Anderson. Immobile’s replacement cleverly freed himself on the edge of the box, before outwitting goalkeeper Marco Sportiello with a dry bang in the bottom left corner: 0-2. Typical of Atalanta’s impotence was Luis Muriel’s schwalbe after almost an hour of play. The referee saw the attacker go to the ground very easily in the box and immediately drew a yellow card. A minute later, Koopmeiners saw a header fly over Lazio’s goal.

Gian Piero Gasperini made another substitution in the seventieth minute, with Duván Zapata taking the place of Ademola Lookman up front. A few minutes later, De Roon was injured and Éderson appeared inside the lines. In the final phase, however, Lazio rarely ran into problems, not even when Hateboer tried with a header. The home team even ended the home game with ten players after Muriel’s second yellow card. The attacker from Colombia had to leave after a hard tackle. After 94 minutes of play in Bergamo, Lazio could score their seventh win of the season, while Atalanta has lost their unbeaten status after eleven games.
