Vitesse and ADO Den Haag are discussing the services of Chris van der Weerden, reports The Gelderlander. Van der Weerden is currently Dirk Kuijt’s assistant at ADO, but the Arnhem team hope to appoint him soon as Phillip Cocu’s assistant. In the past, he already fulfilled that task at PSV, Fenerbahçe and Derby County.

It is somewhat striking that Van der Weerden himself is open to the step to Vitesse, since he signed a contract in The Hague in July. The Gelderlander writes that the transfer ‘must take shape soon’. As soon as ADO has appointed a new assistant and there is an agreement, Van der Weerden will join Cocu’s technical staff in Arnhem.

During his career, Van der Weerden played a season for Vitesse (1994/95), but the Nijmegen resident was trained and made his debut with arch-rival NEC. Cocu has already received two new colleagues from the staff of Thomas Letsch at Vitesse: Marink Reedijk is still an assistant coach in Arnhem, while Edwin Zoetebier is responsible for training the keepers.

After Letsch’s lightning departure to VfL Bochum, Vitesse appointed Cocu as head coach last Monday. The hundred-time international of the Dutch signed a contract for two seasons. It is not yet clear whether Van der Weerden will also have to sign for that term. At ADO, he is currently the second assistant behind John Metgod.
